Marcella I. Esser, age 90, of Plover, died June 1, 2012 at Whispering Pines, The Lodge Assisted Living Center.
Marcella was born January 21, 1922 to the late Frederic & Myrtle (Newby) Francis in Stevens Point, WI. She grew up here and attended the local schools.
She married Theodore Esser, October 8, 1955 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1996. They were married for 41 years.
In earlier years, Marcella worked several jobs before she began working for the city treasurer in 1944 and for the city Health Dept. in 1967. In 1976, she continued working as a secretary-receptionist for the city . In 1978, she began working for the Business Services Section at the Portage County Community Human Services Dept. in the Ruth Gilfry Center. Marcella retired from there in 1987, but returned often to volunteer her time.
Marcella will be remembered for her jolly nature. She enjoyed conversation and relished sharing many stories. In earlier years, she enjoyed tap dancing and roller skating. After retiring, Marcella traveled frequently. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid angel collector. Marcella enjoyed pampering herself with weekly visits to the salon; in addition to spending time with her nieces & nephews.
Survivors include sister-in-laws, Marion Goetz of Plover, Janet Esser of Anchorage, AK, & Dorothy Smith of Nokomis, FL; and many nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents; husband; infant son; brother, Bubsie; & sister-in-laws, Dorothy & Beatrice; and niece, Denise.
A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 pm, June 11, 2012 at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
