Planning for the Future EVEN IF IT'S FOR THE UNTHINKABLE

We appreciate and value a long life expectancy. We honor and cherish the time we have. We realize that life as we have experienced it, will end. Those who have gone before you demonstrate that Life's end can be unpredictable. For those you leave behind, the loss of companionship or friendship can be shocking, overwhelming, & disheartening. No matter what the circumstances may be or what your perception may be; Loss is never easy.

How Do We Cope With Loss?
A Funeral is any Event relating to Death, Loss, Grief, Bereavement, and Mourning that acts as a tribute in a time of change, honoring someone that has impacted our life. This includes, but is not limited to any type of service, ceremony, ritual, rite, sacrament, custom, celebration, reception, gathering or even a party. A Funeral helps to confirm the reality of death; provides a climate for mourning & the expression of grief; it allows the sorrows of one to become the sorrows of many; it is a time when love & support is given and not expected in return; it is a vehicle for the community to pay respects; encourages the affirmation of religious faith or individual spirituality & beliefs; it is a declaration that a life has been lived as well as a sociological statement that a death has occurred; it helps the beginning of a healthy coping process for those who have suffered a loss; and helps to provide an atmosphere in which personal meaning can be created in a time of change.

Preplanning Gives Your Family A Sense of Direction.
Preplanning a funeral & final disposition consists of making your wishes known, mediating them with those you might leave behind, and arranging the initial pre-plan with a licensed funeral director at Boston Funeral Home. It is important to talk with your family about your wishes and be open to their input, feelings, and needs. Be aware that the needs of those you leave behind, can and will change at the time of your death. It is important to give your family permission to make moderate changes to pre-plans to meet their needs in a time of change... remember, funerals are for the living.

The pain & burden of loss can not be alleviated; and doing nothing will not shield those you leave behind from future grief. Preplanning gives your loved ones a sense of direction when the need arises. It gives them comfort to know that a basic plan or outline has been established.

When establishing a basic Funeral Pre-Plan there are considerations that need to be addressed. Know that your family will want to follow your wishes 100% of the time; but sometimes the wishes that are planned do not meet their needs in order to cope with losing you. It is important to acknowledge and be open to future changes when Pre-planning... Give those you leave behind the opportunity to begin the process of saying "good bye" by allowing for viewings; and allowing them to create a meaningful life tribute. Remember, funerals are for the living.
