<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_143974.jpg" alt="Timothy L. Verpoorten" />Timothy L. Verpoorten, age 58, died May 18, 2013 at St Michaels Hospital in Stevens Point.

Tim was born October 12, 1954 to the late Lawrence &amp; Jeanne (Mortenson) Verpoorten in Wausau, WI. He grew up in Aniwa, WI and attended a local one room school before his family relocated to Antigo. He finished grade school and graduated from Antigo High School in 1972. He later attended college at the UW- Marathon County Campus.

Tim worked for the Gas Light Inn as a clerk while attending college. He later became the bar and restaurant manager for the Buccaneer Supper Club. 

He married Alice Sidebottom on July 9, 1983 at the Eagle’s Club in Wausau, WI. 

Tim worked various sales jobs before becoming employed at Mach Farms as a truck broker in Stevens Point. He subsequently became employed with Katz Inc. as a produce broker. Tim was offered a producer broker position in the state of Washington, where he worked for about 3 years before returning to Stevens Point and rejoining Katz Inc.

Tim will be remembered for his stubborn, yet giving nature. He loved his family and always took care of them; he would do anything for his wife, Alice. Tim lived for sports and enjoyed watching NASCAR and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He was the family cook and enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen. Tim had a fascination with technology, especially Apple-Mac computers and accessories. He hosted a weekly web broadcast reviewing new Mac technology. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed watching Sci Fi.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alice; children, Noel of Stevens Point &amp; Nikki (Dan) Olson of Stevens Point; grandchildren, Alexander, Juliana, and Jojo. He is also survived by his sisters, Pam (Jay) Luebbe of TX, Vicki (Jay) Rasmussen of CO, &amp; Amy (Ken) Schmidt of Ringle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Pete &amp; Irene Mortenson and James Verpoorten &amp; Violet Hafemann; parents, Lawrence &amp; Jeanne Verpoorten; and sister, Lori Spinn.

A service, celebrating his life, will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Sandra Wendland officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of service. 

Memorial may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Steven Ministry.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_144021.jpg" alt="Helen E. Mayek" />Helen E. Mayek, age 86, of Stevens Point, died May 18, 2013 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living while under the care of her family and hospice.

Helen was born August 31, 1926 to the late Edward &amp; Elnora (Eastman) Bohm in Junction City, WI. She grew up on the family farm and attended grade school at the local Junction City school house.  

She married Chester Mayek on August 17, 1944 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Junction City.

In her earlier years, Helen worked as a homecare worker, cleaning homes. She later became employed with a local farm harvesting potatos. She left the farm to cook at the Red Mill Supper Club. An opportunity arose at Worzalla Publishing, and Helen seized the opening position. She worked there as a book binder and retired after 25 years of faithful employment.

Helen will always be remembered for her bright smile and kind heart. She had a passion for helping others and keeping busy. Family was important to Helen, as she always enjoyed a time of family fellowship. Helen loved cultivating her garden and watching her flowers bloom. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and socializing. Her faith was important and she was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors included her children, James (Judy) Mayek of Junction City, Edward (Darlene) Mayek of Junction City, Dorothy (George) Pientka of Stevens Point, Judy (Jeff) Schlutter of Bancroft, Pamela (Jim) Dawley of Plover; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and nieces &amp; nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; and brothers, Leo, Carl, Ernest, Emil &amp; Harold.

A Funeral Service, commemorating her life, will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, May 23, 2013 at St Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, with Rev. Tom Petersen officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Boston Funeral Home and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until time of the service. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_143687.jpg" alt="Marion B. Dana" />Marion B. Dana, age 79, of Stevens Point, died Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Stevens Point.

Marion was born on February 21, 1934 to the late Walter &amp; Carol (Roebken) Becker in Milwaukee, WI. During her earlier childhood, her family was relocated several times due to her father’s military service. She attended several grade schools throughout the U.S. until her family finally settled in Wausau, WI. She attended the local schools and graduated from Wausau High School in 1952. Marion continued her education by attending Mount Mary College in Milwaukee. She graduated in 1956 with an Occupational Therapy degree.

She married Carroll Dana on June 15, 1957 at St. James Catholic Church in Wausau, WI. 

Marion and Carroll moved to Madison; and subsequently moved to Milwaukee in 1959 for Carroll’s career with Hardware Mutual. They settled in Stevens Point in 1960 where Marion devoted her life to her family.

She will be remembered for her generous and outgoing nature. Marion enjoyed staying active within the community and enjoyed welcoming new families to her neighborhood. She enjoyed family events, and loved spending time with family and friends. In her spare time, Marion exercised her passion for playing bridge. She was a member of the Town Bridge Club, in addition to various neighborhood bridge clubs. Marion also enjoyed traveling, and had visited 49 of the 50 U.S. states. Her faith was important to her as Marion was an active member of St Stanislaus Catholic Church. She participated in Bible studies, served as a reader, and distributed communion. Marion was involved in many organizations- she was Vice President of the Hospital Auxiliary in 1960, President of the Newcomers Club, and was a member of the Christian Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll; son, Brian (Donna) of Rhinelander; grandchildren, Gage, Amelia, &amp; Marshall; brother, Robert (Linda) Becker of Mosinee; and nephews, grandnephews, &amp; cousins.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Pauline.

A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, May 19, 2013 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Lindner officiating.  Visitation will precede the funeral at the church on Sunday from 12:00 noon until the time of service.  A time of visitation will also be held on Saturday at Boston Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm; and will conclude with a prayer service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Operation Bootstrap and Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools.

Marion’s family would like to thank the caring staff at St Michaels Hospital and the Portage County Health Care Center.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_143424.jpg" alt="Irene C. Zurawski" />Irene C. Zurawski, age 86, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 9, 2013.

Irene was born April 25, 1927 in Lanark, daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Boushley) Rader.

Her early childhood was spent living at St. Joseph Orphanage in Green Bay, WI from 1932 to 1942 with her twin brothers, George and Joe.  At the age of 15, she left the orphanage to live with her Aunt.

She met her husband, Laddie at Wildwood Gardens.  They were married on August 24, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Laddie’s mother, Victoria and brother, Louie lived with them until they passed in 1951.  Irene went on to raise 6 children, providing them with all her love.

They owned the All American Bar where they served the best chicken and fish fry’s in town.  After they sold their business, she worked at Sentry Insurance in the cafeteria and later retired from Sentry’s custodian department.

Her early childhood made her a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a very generous lady always helping anyone in need.  She made regular visits to her friends in the Health Care Centers in Stevens Point, bringing them homemade cookies and candy.  She never forgot her friends.

Irene enjoyed attending the Aqua Aerobics swim class at Sentry Insurance.  The ladies were like family to her.  She bragged about her hair stylist, Peggy.  Her favorite holiday was Christmas.  She loved her church, St. Casimir as well as attending church picnics.  She was an avid QVC shopper.

Irene is survived by 6 children, Fred (Rita), Louise (James) Krusa, Richard, Robert (Jane), Mary (Michael) Kizewski, Sue (Joe) Studinski; 9 grandchildren, &amp; sister-in-law Irene Rader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Laddie in 2004; her parents; brothers, DeLoyd, George and Joe.

A Funeral Mass will be held  10:30 am, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at St. Casimir Church, Stevens Point, with Rev. Arul Joseph Visuvasam officiating.  Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of service.  Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in Guardian Angel Cemetery.  Condolences may be made to Mike and Mary Kizewski, 1709 Wilshire Drive, Stevens Point, WI 54482.

We would like to thank Elroy &amp; Bonnie Ziolkowski for their Sunday Communion visits.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_143248.jpg" alt="Agnes A. Jones" />Agnes A. Jones, 97, of Stevens Point died April 29, 2013.
Agnes was born in Withee, WI, the oldest child of the late Sam and Katherine (Jacobsen) Andersen. She grew up on a small family farm in Owen where she attended elementary school and graduated from high school.
Following graduation, Agnes worked in Milwaukee doing house work to earn money for college. With family financial help, she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1934 as a Physical Education major. Agnes later changed her major to Home Economics Education.
Agnes earned her way through college by working full time while attending school. She worked as a waitress, assisted in the Physical Education office, and helped in the Agricultural Library. Agnes completed her BS degree in Home Economics and Education in 1937. She subsequently earned her MS degree in Home Economics and PhD in Education-Teacher Education and Supervision.
Early in her career, Agnes taught high school Home Economics in Mauston, WI. She then spent 12 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a librarian, teacher, and supervisor of student teachers. She transferred to the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 1956 as a professor. Agnes became head of the Home Economics Department. She was later promoted to head of the School of Home Economics and Associate Dean of the College of Professional Studies.  She was named Professor Emerita in 1981.
Agnes served on the Wisconsin Home Economics Association throughout her career. She was named an Outstanding Educator of America in 1972. She served as Vice-President and President of the Association of Wisconsin Home Economics Teacher Educators, and was also a member of the executive board of the National Council of Administrators of Home Economics.
She married James Jones in 1943. The couple divorced in 1956. James died in 1978.
Agnes retired in 1996 after serving 25 years as head of Home Economics, 15 years in Advising and Placement, and a total of 59 years in Education.
Survivors include her son, James (Katie Lawler) Jones, of Twain Harte, CA; nephews, Jim Andersen (Julie) of Amery, WI; Bob Andersen (Claudia) of Madison, WI; and Gary Andersen (Lori) of Oregon, WI.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Einer; sister, Helga; uncle, Jens; and aunt, Mary.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, WI. Interment will take place in Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery in Withee, WI.
All of life is a journey… Agnes was dedicated to her students and the Department of Home Economics and helped many people throughout her extensive career.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_142850.jpg" alt="Ronald R. Heck" />Ronald R. Heck, age 81, of Plover, died April 27, 2013. 

Ronald was born July 28, 1931 to the late William &amp; Edna (Ruhl) Heck in Belleville, IL.  He grew up in Belleville, attended the local schools, and graduated from Belleville Township High School.  Following high school, Ronald attended McKendree College graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.  During then, he had played in the American Legion Baseball National Tournament. 

Ronald married Mary Ann Hoeflinger on June 9, 1956 in Belleville, IL.

After college, Ronald became an Insurance Adjuster for Western Adjustment Company in Hampton Village, MO, Centralia, IL and the Chicago Area.  Following brief employments at Zurich Insurance Co &amp; Hannover Insurance Group, he moved to Stevens Point in 1971 to take charge of Property Insurance for Sentry Insurance.  He later became Corporate Property Director for Sentry.  Among his accomplishments, he helped write Sentry’s Plain Talk homeowners policy.  He also spent 15 years on the Property Loss Advisory Board of the Property Loss Research Bureau.  Ronald retired in January of 1992.

In his spare time, Ronald enjoyed model railroading, horseshoe pitching, traveling, camping reading, and sports, especially golf &amp; softball.  He had hosted a trivia team for 35 years. Following retirement, Ronald was a a volunteer driver for Portage County Human Services for 10 years. He was a president of Sentry Employees Club in 1975, and past president of Western Loss Association.

He was an Adult Boy Scout Volunteer for over 25 years; Troop Master of Troop 293 (1975-1977); Mushkodany District Commissioner (1981-1985); Samoset Council Commissioner (2000-2001); was on elder deacon and treasurer at various churches; and was Stephen Minishter (2004-2009) with St. Paul UMC. In Boy Scouts of America, Ronald received the following awards, District Award of Merit in 1983, Woodbadge, Boy Scouts James E. West Fellow (2008); earned Silver Bearer in 1987. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Hoeflinger of Plover; daughter, Susan (Peter) Fourness of Edgerton; son, Barry (Jane) Heck of Middleton, daughter, Julie (Roy) Fonseca of East Peoria, IL; and grandchildren, Kirby Heck, Emma &amp; Renee Fonseca.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, May 3, 2013. A Funeral Service, Celebrating his Life, will be held 11:00 am, Saturday at St Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Hintzman officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment  in Valhalla Cemetery, in Belleville, IL will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samoset Council B.S.A. (designating camp Tesomas fund for Ron Heck) 3511 Camp Phillips Road, Weston, WI or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Stevens Point.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_142509.jpg" alt="Joan C. Joerns" />Joan C. Joerns, age 84, of 1636 Clark Street, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 due to complications from heart surgery.
Joan was born in Stevens Point on April 20, 1929, the daughter of late Frederick C. and Ruth (Jacobs) Joerns.  She attended St. Stephen Grade School, graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School, and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.  
Joan loved her family, St. Stephen Parish and the city of Stevens Point.  She was extensively involved in several community activities and organizations, and served on a number of boards.
Joan’s lighthearted nature was epitomized by the presence of a pink flamingo in a flower box above the front door of her home, which she dressed in varying costumes during the course of the year honoring a special event or season.
Joan’s father, mother and a brother, Frederick (Freddy) preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Joerns) and Raymond D. Nass of Stevens Point; nephew, William C (Lisa), and their children, Emily and Thomas Nass of Des Peres, MO; nephew, Michael C., (Claire) and their children, Connor, Killeen, Elizabeth and Patrick Nass of Northbrook, IL; niece, Jane (Brian), and their children, Catherine, Molly and Charles Lavin of Edina, MN; niece, Susan (Scott), and their children, Sarah and Tatum Meisenheimer of Edina, MN; and nephew, Timothy (Allison), and their children, Louis, Olivia, Timothy, Jr. and Grace Nass of Wausau, WI.
Visitation will be held at Boston Funeral Home, Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm; concluding with prayer. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am, Monday, April 29th, at St. Stephen Catholic Church; preceded by visitation from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will take place in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery. 
Memorial gifts may be made to Operation Bootstrap.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://bostonfuneralhome.net/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/161_142416.jpg" alt="Louise H. Henninger" />Louise H. Henninger, age 93, of Stevens Point, died April 23, 2013 at the Portage County Health Care Center. 

Louise was born March 30, 1920 to the late Emil &amp; Hattie (Drescher) Korth in York Center, Town of York, WI. She graduated from Granton High School in 1938. Louise received a two year Rural Teaching Degree in 1940 from Central State Teacher College in Stevens Point.

She taught in one room schoolhouses in the Clark County area for 5 years until marrying Harlow Henninger August 25, 1945 at the York Center United Methodist Church. After her marriage, Louise devoted her life to family and raising 5 children.

Louise’s sweet, comforting nature made her a great conversationalist.  Family was central to her and she cherished family gatherings.  Faith was very important to Louise and so were her connections for many decades to Fountain Park United Methodist in Sheboygan, and in her recent years, to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Stevens Point.  Famiy camping in many national parks was a highlight.  Sewing, quilting, baking, and gardening were part of her everyday life.  Louise enjoyed nature and was a conservationist at heart and in daily practice.

She is survived by her husband, Harlow of Stevens Point; children, Howard Henninger of NC, David (Cathy) Henninger of Oconomowoc, WI, Mark (Debi) of Metamora, IL, Alan (Connie) Henninger of Waconia, MN, &amp; Jean (Harv) Hayden of Custer, WI; siblings, Walter (Violet) Korth of Cambridge, WI, Dorothy Meyer of Elk Mound, WI, &amp; Eileen Crossman of Lake Mills, WI; sister-in-law, Alvina Korth of Cambridge, WI; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Wilbert.

A service celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Howard Hintzman officiating. Visitation will also be held on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.  Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Clark County at a later date.  


We’re thankful for all the people who have loved and cared for Louise over the years.
